On the Distribution of Depths in Increasing Trees
نویسندگان
چکیده
By a theorem of Dobrow and Smythe, the depth of the kth node in very simple families of increasing trees (which includes, among others, binary increasing trees, recursive trees and plane ordered recursive trees) follows the same distribution as the number of edges of the form j−(j+1) with j < k. In this short note, we present a simple bijective proof of this fact, which also shows that the result actually holds within a wider class of increasing trees. We also discuss some related results that follow from the bijection as well as a possible generalization. Finally, we use another similar bijection to determine the distribution of the depth of the lowest common ancestor of two nodes.

Vegetation due to its root system by creating cohesion of soil particles, significantly affects hill slope mechanical properties related to shallow landslides and slope stability. In this regard, the root engineering characteristics of forest species are important. The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution pattern of persian oak and hawthorn in Zagross forests. For this purpose,...
متن کاملOn weighted path lengths and distances in increasing trees
We study weighted path lengths (depths) and distances for increasing tree families. For those subclasses of increasing tree families, which can be constructed via an insertion process, e.g., recursive trees, plane-oriented recursive trees and binary increasing trees, we can determine the limiting distribution which can be characterized as a generalized Dickman’s infinitely divisible distribution.

A significant portion of the Shirkouh lands in the Mehriz city encompass irrigated and rainfed orchards. The livelihoods of the people in this area are mainly supported through farming and raising livestock. Many orchard products, especially Amygdalus sp. are rainfed and produce a good crop in rainy years. However, in the drought years, the production faces problems. This research was carried o...

. Introduction Old trees are important and key elements of forest sites and are of great value in terms of forest management, reforestation, silviculture and ecology. Although old trees constitute a small percentage of forest trees, they account for a large share of forest carbon reserve and play a vital role in carbon storage. Understanding the how geographical and site distribution of thes...
متن کاملOn the first variable Zagreb index
The first variable Zagreb index of graph $G$ is defined as begin{eqnarray*} M_{1,lambda}(G)=sum_{vin V(G)}d(v)^{2lambda}, end{eqnarray*} where $lambda$ is a real number and $d(v)$ is the degree of vertex $v$. In this paper, some upper and lower bounds for the distribution function and expected value of this index in random increasing trees (rec...
